Financial Education
Celebrating Excellence in Financial Education
At Thornhill Academy, we are proud to have been awarded Centre of Excellence for Financial Education Status, recognising our commitment to delivering high-quality financial education and ensuring that students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
This achievement reflects our whole-school approach to preparing students for the future. We believe that financial capability is a vital life skill and an important part of our wider Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme. Through careers education, personal development, enterprise activities and employer engagement, students learn not only about future pathways and employment opportunities but also how to manage money responsibly, understand financial risk and make informed decisions about their futures.
Our financial education provision is embedded across the curriculum and within our Personal Development programme, helping students understand real-life topics such as budgeting, banking, borrowing, saving, employment, taxation and financial planning.
As a result, students leave Thornhill better prepared for the opportunities and challenges of adult life, equipped with the skills needed to succeed in further education, training, employment and beyond.

Financial Education Provision Statement
Thornhill Academy believes that all young people need to be equipped with the knowledge and understanding they need to inform their attitudes to finance. This includes practice in managing money, making well-informed choices in their current and future lives in order to achieve their goals.
At Thornhill Academy we develop a holistic approach by linking finance education to all aspects of school life in and out of lessons. This in turn leads our students to progress confidently onto their next best steps.
Financial Education is used as a catch-all term covering everything to do with understanding and managing finance in a progressive and age-appropriate manner. This is delivered through discreet lessons as well as being linked to careers, personal and social education, citizenship, character development and rewards.
