Skills Builder Partnership
Thornhill Academy is a proud Skills Builder Partnership School, committed to ensuring that our students leave school with not only excellent qualifications, but also the essential transferable skills needed for success in education, employment and everyday life.
We believe that a great education goes beyond academic achievement. It should equip young people with the confidence, resilience and essential skills required to lead fulfilling and productive lives in an ever-changing world.
As part of our commitment to developing these skills, Thornhill Academy has been awarded the Skills Builder Silver Award, recognising our whole-school approach to embedding essential skills across the curriculum and wider school experience.
Through lessons, enrichment activities, careers education and employer engagement, we provide students with regular opportunities to develop and apply these skills, helping them to become confident, capable and future-ready learners.

Those with stronger essential skills have been shown to enjoy greater life satisfaction and can earn up to 12% more than their peers.
We deliver our programme through assemblies, AM’PD, Guidance lessons. In addition, we take opportunities to apply and practice skills with workshops, visiting speakers, co-curricular activities and trips.
We track and reward students for demonstrating and improving their skills.
