Thornhill Co-operative Social Enterprise Team Shines at Dragon's Den Event
The Thornhill Co-operative Social Enterprise Team, composed of Year 10 and Year 7 students, showcased their entrepreneurial spirit at the Dragon's Den event held at Sunderland City Hall on Wednesday, June 5th.
Competing alongside four other schools from the North East, the Thornhill team impressed local entrepreneurs with their innovative business ideas and collaborative efforts.
Each participating school took to the stage to present their business plans, engaging in a dynamic question and answer session with the panel of 'dragons'. The Thornhill team stood out with their creative enterprise ideas, which included selling bracelets, personalised bags, key rings, and organising a Euros competition. These initiatives built upon their successful cake sale from the previous half term.
The dragons were notably impressed by the Thornhill Co-operative team’s presentation and awarded them the prestigious "Best Collaborative Group" award. In addition, the team received a £100 investment to support their business. The profits from all sales will be allocated to four social good causes, with some funds being reinvested to ensure the sustainability of the business for the next year.
The four social causes benefiting from Thornhill's entrepreneurial efforts are:
- Children of Conflict
- Thornhill Sensory Room
- Cancer Awareness
- Blankets for Refugees
This remarkable achievement highlights the dedication and teamwork of the Thornhill students, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact in their community. The award and the investment will not only enhance their business operations but also support meaningful social initiatives.
